Spend the night in the architect-designed Skjoldunge shelter in Skjoldungernes Land National Park. The shelter is inspired by the area's legendary past with the Viking ship as its focal point. That's why the shelter resembles a ship's prow.
The shelter is built with clinker-built boards, just as the Vikings clinkered their ships. The "ship planks" are oiled with linseed oil to withstand wind and weather, while retaining their light color on the inside.
Inside the shelter, the structures protrude, like in the hull of a wooden ship. At the end of each shelter is a bench that, like the ship's benches, stretches out the belly.
The shelter is quite a bit smaller than the Skjoldunge shelters that stand at the Lavringe Jord shelter site in Lejre, but the new shelter can still house an entire family.
The shelter's hatches can open all the way around, and can thus be adjusted to the wind direction, campfire smoke and desires for stargazing or privacy.
The site is located on the northern edge of the village of Kisserup. Everyone is welcome to visit the shelter site, where in addition to a shelter there is a campfire site and a packed lunch house, as well as exciting stories and pictures from the local area.
